Over the last decade, the bronchiectasis community has moved from the margins to a truly global movement: international registries have clarified disease burden and phenotypes; updated guidelines set standards of care; new trials test anti-inflammatory and anti-infective strategies; and advances in airway clearance, physiotherapy, digital health, imaging and microbiome research are reshaping prevention and personalised monitoring.
The paediatric field is rapidly emerging. The Child-BEAR Network has already documented more than 1,000 cases of children with bronchiectasis and chronic cough, highlighting the need for age-specific diagnosis, management and treatment pathways.
The 1st European Workshop on Bronchiectasis and Chronic Cough in Children and Adolescents (26-27 February 2026, Bergamo, Italy) is the first step of a new journey to share challenges, improvements and innovation for children and adolescents.

A decade after the first World Bronchiectasis Conference in Hannover (2016), the Bronchiectasis community has evolved into a global movement with scientists, researchers, and clinicians dedicated to improving the management of this complex disease. Over the past ten years, bronchiectasis has gained significant attention, with international registries enhancing our understanding of its burden and variations. Updated guidelines have established care standards, new clinical trials have explored anti-inflammatory and anti-infective treatments, and advancements in airway clearance, physiotherapy, digital health, imaging, and microbiome research are changing how we prevent and manage exacerbations. Notably, the patient voice now plays a crucial role in shaping research and service delivery.
Recent developments have also highlighted the pediatric aspect of bronchiectasis. The Child Bear Network has created an international registry documenting over 1,000 cases of children with bronchiectasis and chronic cough, leading experts to emphasize the need for tailored diagnosis and treatment strategies for this age group.
The upcoming 1st European Workshop on Pediatric Bronchiectasis and Chronic Cough aims to foster collaboration and discussion among the global Bronchiectasis Community to address new challenges and innovations in managing the condition in children and adolescents. The workshop will take place in Bergamo, Italy, on February 27, 2026. We invite you to join us in this important initiative for the future of our young patients and their families.
